** Information on how to process and setup Job Keeper in your payroll package for Xero, Attaché, MYOB  or
Wage Easy please refer to the bottom of this article. (Updated 17th April 2020)

With the new policy released this week and hopefully to be made into Law next week.

Key things to do

  1. Register if you qualify
  2. Submit your BAS on time
  3. Setup your Payroll to allow for the change in processing. (Talk to our help desk if you need a hand with this)
  4. Talk to your staff about the effects on them. (Danny or Colin are available if you need a hand with understanding the effects of the policy)

QUICK Summary below

WHO GETS IT?

  • Employees who have already been stood down will be eligible for the payment and those still at work in your business. Those employers who have already laid off workers will also be able to rehire employees and access the payment.
  • Full-time workers, part-time employees, sole traders and casuals who have been with the company (or not-for-profit for at least one year) can have their wages subsidised if they were with the organisation on 1 March 2020.
  • The employer will deal with the government, fill in the paperwork and receive the wage subsidies.
  • Employees who are kept on the books (even if the business goes into hibernation for a while) will keep receiving their pay in their bank accounts.

WHO QUALIFIES?

The payment depends on the size of the company you work for:

  • For firms with revenue of less than $1 billion — sales need to drop by at least 30 per cent
  • For businesses that have turnover above $1 billion — revenue needs to drop by half
  • Employers that receive the payment will be required by law to pass it on to their staff.

WHEN & HOW?

The Australian Tax Office will reimburse companies for the last couple of days of March — and the whole month of April — from the start of May.

THOSE WHO LOST THEIR JOB PRIOR TO MARCH

People who have already been sacked are eligible if their business signs up for the program and puts them back on the books.
For people who’ve lost their job and whose company doesn’t sign up, they will need to apply for a Centrelink payment.

CAN AN EMPLOYER TOP UP A WAGE?

Yes.
